China has launched the world’s first 10G broadband network, offering speeds of nearly 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) in its futuristic megacity, Xiong’an, located 70 miles southwest of Beijing. This groundbreaking network was built through a collaborative project between Huawei and state-owned telecom company China Unicom.
The speed peaked at 9,834 Megabits per second (Mbps), making it the fastest commercially viable broadband network globally.
On the Latency it is well under 3 milliseconds, thanks to the next-generation 50G Passive Optical Network (PON) technology.
It has capabilities to download more than two full movies in 4K quality or a single 8K movie in about a second.
The potential applications are enumerated below:
Virtual Reality : it enable seamless VR experiences.
Augmented Reality: Support AR applications.
Self-Driving Car Networks: Facilitate low-latency communication for autonomous vehicles.
Telemedicine: Enhance remote healthcare services.
Remote Education: Improve online learning experiences.
Smart Agriculture: Support precision farming and agricultural automation.
The successful deployment of the 10G network in Xiong’an may lead to expanded availability in more provinces, improving connectivity between major cities like Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.
