An Open Letter to President, Distinguished Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR
Your Excellency Sir,
I write to you with sincerity and respect. I believe in your leadership. I believe in the courage it took to make some of the decisions you have made. Reform is never easy, and history often shows that difficult decisions are the ones that shape nations for the better.
When I read the recent comments reported by Leadership Newspaper from Hope Uzodimma about the need for the All Progressives Congress to become more structured, and the remarks credited to Nentanwe Yilwatda emphasizing results over noise, I felt encouraged. It shows confidence. It shows belief in the direction of the party and your administration.
But sir, beyond confidence, there is work, deeper work.
You have appointed more young people into government, and that is commendable. However, there is a growing public perception that many of these young appointees still come from established political families or circles that have long been within the radar of power. Whether fair or not, that perception exists. And perception matters in leadership.
At this stage, what is most needed is unfiltered, first-hand information. The kind that comes directly from the markets, the farms, the classrooms, the streets, not reports polished to please superiors. The truth, sir, is that many Nigerians are struggling. The economic pressure is heavy. The cost of food, transportation, accommodation, and healthcare is weighing deeply on families.
Yes, reforms take time. Yes, some pain may be temporary. But when pain stretches without visible relief, hope begins to weaken.
Nigerians are not asking for quick fixes anymore. They are asking for sustainable systems. Systems that stabilize food production and supply. Systems that make housing more accessible. Systems that make health insurance real for ordinary families. Systems that connect education to real economic opportunity.
Sir, perhaps this is the moment to constitute **Renewed Hope Think Tanks**; not ceremonial committees, but practical working groups that report directly to your office. Groups made up of people who are not necessarily career politicians but are grounded in their communities. Agric experts who understand food security at farm level. Education reformers who understand what is failing in our schools. Welfare and housing professionals who can design workable models. Health insurance practitioners who know what can be scaled realistically.
Nigeria has the talent. Across the country, there are capable people ready to serve without noise, without drama, just results.
It should not be about who is publicly buying re-election forms or making grand declarations of loyalty. It should be about what is happening in their constituencies. Are the people feeling the impact? Are small businesses breathing easier? Are young people seeing opportunity?
This is no longer the politics of covering up gaps with speeches. It is the politics of action. Measurable action. Visible change. Honest feedback.
Governor Uzodimma’s call for structure is important. That structure must extend to how reforms are monitored and corrected. If the party says it offers results, then those results must be felt in the daily lives of Nigerians.
Mr. President Sir, this is not criticism. It is concern rooted in support. The Renewed Hope agenda is too important to be managed only by familiar faces. It needs fresh eyes, grounded voices, and people who will tell you the truth even when it is uncomfortable.
You have shown courage. The next step may require widening the circle, discovering new faces who are not entrenched in the system but are deeply connected to the people.
Nigeria can rise. The foundation is there. With deeper inclusion, practical grassroots engagement, and sustained focus on long-term systems rather than short-term optics, Renewed Hope can become more than a slogan, it can become a lived reality.
With respect and genuine commitment to the progress of our nation.
HE (Dr) Tofunmi Ogunronbi
Former Gubernatorial Candidate-Ogun State.
