Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the deployment of Dr. Muyiwa John Adetola as the new Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Public Service, with effect from Monday, March 2, 2026.

The strategic redeployment follows the statutory retirement of Dr. Abiodun Muritala from active service, marking the end of a distinguished tenure in the state’s financial administration. His exit paves the way for a seamless transition in one of the most critical offices in the state’s governance structure.

Dr. Adetola, who previously served as State Auditor-General and Permanent Secretary, brings to his new role a wealth of experience in public sector financial management, fiscal accountability, and institutional reforms. His track record in ensuring transparency, compliance, and prudent management of public funds is widely regarded as a strong foundation for the responsibilities that now lie ahead.
As Accountant-General, Dr. Adetola will oversee the state’s treasury operations, financial reporting systems, and budgetary implementation processes—functions central to sustaining Lagos State’s reputation for fiscal discipline and innovative governance.
In a circular announcing the deployment, the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, congratulated Dr. Adetola on his new assignment and expressed confidence in his capacity to deliver excellence in the Office. He wished him a successful tenure and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening the public service for greater efficiency and service delivery.
The appointment underscores Governor Sanwo-Olu’s continued emphasis on merit, professionalism, and continuity in leadership within the Lagos State Public Service, as the administration consolidates gains in financial management and public sector reforms.
