The Phase One of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit Project being handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is expected to be ready for commissioning by December.

Mr Kong Tao, the Project Manager handling the project made this known during a press tour of the project site at Idu, Abuja, on Tuesday.

The Abuja Rail project consists of lots 1A and 3, covering 45km with 12 designed passengers’ stations and will create an important link between the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and the Abuja Central Business District.

Kong Tao said “Work on the large scale project is going on smoothly” and would be test-run by November this year, while the commission of the project for public use would be done by December.

The project manager however expressed concerns on vandalism as he noted that incidents of such were rampant on the project.

He said “Despite the presence of security personnel, thieves still operate on weekly basis”

He also made an appeal for host communities to stop destroying the perimeter fencing built to prevent trespassing on the rail track.

Tao said, “Safety is the most important thing in our operation. Even though we built fence to prevent trespass, they break it to cross the rail rack.

The Abuja Rail Mass Transit Project is expected to cost about $823 Million which amounts to close to N300 Billion
