A Lagos-based law firm, K.C. Anekwe & Associates, Barristers & Solicitors, has formally demanded a written apology, public retraction, and payment of N15 million in damages over what it describes as a false and defamatory rape allegation made against its client, Mr. Ojuko Adefesobi David.

In a letter dated February 22, 2026, and addressed to Adewale Adeola Adeife of the Department of English Language & Literature at Obafemi Awolowo University, the firm stated that it is acting on behalf of David in respect of an allegation allegedly published on social media.
According to the letter, the accusation was made on or about February 17, 2026, and was widely circulated across various platforms, including WhatsApp.
The publication allegedly included David’s phone number and portrayed him as a rapist, a development his lawyers say triggered widespread backlash and subjected him to public ridicule, harassment and threats.
The firm maintains that the allegation is entirely false, malicious, and devoid of any factual basis. It further stated that the publication has caused severe reputational damage to its client, affecting his standing among family members, associates, colleagues, and the general public, while also resulting in emotional distress and alleged loss of business opportunities.
Although the accused party reportedly issued a video apology following the circulation of the allegation, K.C. Anekwe & Associates argues that the step does not extinguish liability for defamation.
The firm contends that the damage occasioned by the widespread dissemination of the allegation remains substantial and ongoing.
Consequently, the legal representatives have demanded the following within fourteen (14) days of receipt of the letter:
Payment of N15,000,000 as damages for defamation and related harm.
A written apology and full retraction to be prominently published on all platforms where the allegation appeared.
Immediate removal of all defamatory publications and related content.
A written undertaking to cease and desist from making further defamatory statements.
The letter warns that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe may result in the institution of legal proceedings, including claims for aggravated and exemplary damages, injunctive relief, and recovery of litigation costs.
The firm emphasized that the notice was issued without prejudice to its client’s rights and remedies under Nigerian law.
