The APC South Africa Chapter, APC-SA has described the appointment of Hon. Abike Dabiri as the Chairperson/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) as “a testament of the peoples’ firm believe” her leadership quality.
This statement was made in a congratulatory message sent by the APC-SA to her on her appointment.
The letter read as thus:
“We the member of the APC-SA wish to felicitate with you on the Senate confirmation of the Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations report of your position as the Chairperson/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).”
“This singular action is a testament of the peoples’ firm believe in your leadership. As a major stakeholder in your new office, we are highly elated beyond measure.”
“We recalled that as a three-time member of the House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos between 2003 and 2015, and as Chairman of House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, you had sponsored the bill seeking the establishment of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.”
“Furthermore, your recent position as the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora matters robustly qualifies you for this new position of the Chairman/CEO, NIDCOM. We are not aware of any Nigerian that would have been more suitable for the position than you and we believe that you got this position meritoriously. The waiting period between November 2018 when your appointment was sent to the Nigerian Senate and May 2019 when this confirmation was done is worthwhile.”
“While congratulating you on your assumption of office, we will also like to use this medium to encourage you and your team to now focus on service delivery through the following:”
“a.The need to work with all Diaspora Chapters of your primary political constituency (the APC Diaspora Chapters) and by extension all other political parties, organizations and formations in Diaspora. This should assist your office on the actualization of strategic objectives outlined in your terms of reference as well as the mandate given to you. One of those objectives must be to prosecute to a viable conclusion the issue of voting in Diaspora. This singular objective will rival the similar very important milestone achieved by President Muhammadu Buhari, that is the recognition of late Chief M. K. O. ABIOLA as the vanguard of democracy and June 12 as Democracy day.”
“b. The issue of Diaspora Desk should be all inclusive with Diaspora political Party representation, particularly the APC. The Diaspora have campaign for more inflow of investment into Nigeria and worked for the assumption of the President and many others both in 2015 and 2019. They Diaspora should therefore not be left out in the dividends of democracy and all-inclusiveness.”
“As is consistent with our regular communication with our National body in Nigeria, we in APC SA are ready to support you and your office to succeed in this new position. We will avail ourselves if and when called upon to work together to lift the banner of our nation high and be proud ambassadors outside the country.”
