The Committee of Diaspora Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised the Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, to be magnanimous in victory.

The committee gave the advice in a statement jointly signed by Prof. Adesegun Labinjo and Mr Bola Babarinde, its Chairman and General Secretary, respectively on Thursday in Lagos.

“We congratulate Sen. Godswill Akpabio and Rep. Tajudeen Abass for their election as the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively and urge them to be magnanimous in victory,” it said.

While describing Akpabio and Abass as astute and experienced legislators, the committee charged them to carry along all aggrieved members, especially those that contested or stepped down for them, to give them a sense of belonging.

“Sen. Godswill Akpabio is an astute politician who has served in different capacities as Governor and Minister before becoming the Senate President, and Rep. Tajudeen Abass has gained experience as legislator for five terms.

“The choices of this two patriotic Nigerians are the best at the moment for the stability, progress and unity of the country as they reflect and represent the diversity and homogeneity needed for consensus of harmony in our entity.

“We congratulate the duo for their successes and achievements to lead the National Assembly and driving the legislature in contributing to nation building and ensuring harmony between the legislature and executive arms of government to bring about socioeconomic development in our country,” it said.

The committee promised to work with the new leadership of the National Assembly to succeed in their new roles.

“Your new offices should be used for the benefits of majority of Nigerians both home and in Diaspora, and not for only few individuals, for your names to be written in gold and for the sake of prosperity.

“We appeal that the enfranchisement of the voting population of Nigerians in the Diaspora championed by Prince Ade Omole should be finalised under your tenure.

“This will be a good credit for the administration of Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the committee stated.
