The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) following the conclusion of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

The declaration was made by the AMAC Collation Officer, Prof. Andrew Abue, who announced that Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, secured the highest number of votes cast in the election. According to the official results, the APC candidate polled 40,295 votes out of a total of 62,861 valid votes, thereby meeting all constitutional requirements to be returned elected.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) emerged as the first runner-up with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 3,398 votes.
Prof. Abue further disclosed that the election recorded 2,336 rejected votes, bringing the total number of votes cast to 65,197. The total number of accredited voters stood at 65,676, out of a registered voter population of 837,338 in AMAC.
Declaring the result, the Collation Officer stated: “That Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
Maikalangu’s victory marks a renewed mandate for the APC in AMAC, reinforcing the party’s dominance in the council and setting the stage for the continuation of its administrative agenda in Nigeria’s capital territory.
Political observers note that the outcome reflects voter confidence in the incumbent’s leadership, as stakeholders now look ahead to governance priorities and development initiatives within the council area.
