A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of today near the Nigerian Army Sports Centre in Morocco, Yaba, Lagos, as a reckless driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, plowed into a group of soldiers during their routine route march.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the vehicle, moving at an uncontrollable speed, veered off course and struck the marching troops with devastating impact. Over 15 soldiers were hit, leaving four confirmed dead and several others with severe injuries. Emergency responders and military medical teams swiftly arrived at the scene to provide immediate assistance to the wounded, who were rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

Authorities have since taken the driver into custody, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The Nigerian Army has yet to issue an official statement, but sources within the military confirm that disciplinary and legal actions will follow.

The tragic event has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for stricter enforcement of road safety laws to prevent such reckless driving. Residents in the area, visibly shaken by the incident, lamented the dangers posed by drunk driving and excessive speeding on Lagos roads.

More updates to follow as the investigation progresses
