The Lagos State Government has officially announced the cancellation of the 2025 edition of the Greater Lagos Fiesta, which was scheduled to hold on December 31, 2025.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, following the approval of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to the statement, the Governor directed that in place of the usual Greater Lagos Fiesta and Countdown to the New Year, Lagosians should devote the period to personal and collective prayers for Nigeria, Lagos State, and the wellbeing of the people.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged residents to pray for the continued prosperity of the nation and the state, as well as for sound leadership, peace, productivity, and overall wellbeing of the citizenry.
While extending his goodwill to residents ahead of the new year, the Governor assured Lagosians that 2026 holds great promise for both Lagos State and Nigeria. He called on residents to continue to live together in peace and harmony as partners in progress.
“On behalf of my family, I wish every resident of our dear State a happy and prosperous New Year. I want to assure you all that the year 2026 will be a better year for us in the State, as our administration is determined to work twice as hard to deliver the good for the residents,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to people-centred governance and expressed optimism that the coming year would usher in renewed hope, stability, and sustainable development for all Lagosians.
