In an assertive measure aimed at encouraging fiscal discipline and ensuring governmental accountability, President Tinubu has temporarily suspended all government-funded foreign travel for ministers, heads of agencies, and senior government officials. This suspension will commence on April 1st, 2024, and will extend for three months.
Under this directive, any government official seeking to engage in essential international travel funded by the government during this period must obtain explicit presidential consent at least two weeks before the intended travel date. Only travel deemed indispensable to the nation’s interest will be authorised.
Adding to the rationale behind this decision, President Tinubu aims to ensure that ministers and senior officials remain readily available to address inquiries related to their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as the government through Hadiza Bala Usman’s CDCU Policy of the Federal Government embarks on a comprehensive performance review exercise during this period.
This strategic move underscores the President’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the efficient management of public resources.
