The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The confirmation took place during today’s plenary session after an extensive screening exercise where senators assessed his qualifications, vision, and commitment to electoral integrity.
During his presentation before the lawmakers, Professor Amupitan, a renowned constitutional lawyer and academic from Kogi State in the North-Central region, pledged to uphold the independence and credibility of the electoral body. He assured Nigerians that his leadership would focus on deepening democratic values, ensuring transparency in election processes, and restoring public confidence in INEC’s operations.
