Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has signed the Kano State Emirates Council (Amendment No. 2) Law, 2024, effectively abolishing the five emirate councils of Kano, Bichi, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya. The signing ceremony, held in the presence of Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam, Speaker Isma’il Falgore, and Secretary to the State Government Abdullahi Bichi, marks a significant shift in the state’s traditional leadership structure.

Following the enactment, Governor Yusuf announced the reinstatement of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was deposed in 2019 by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. The governor has given the current emirs 48 hours to vacate their palaces.
