Tragedy struck early Saturday morning as a building housing the popular Equal Rights Restaurant on Oremeta Street, Ojodu Berger, collapsed, leaving several individuals trapped under the debris.
Emergency response teams, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) with Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, Hon Segun Odunmbaku promptly arrived at the scene and commenced rescue operations.
As of the time of filing this report, five victims have been successfully rescued and rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention. However, efforts are still underway to reach other individuals reportedly trapped under the rubble.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, but authorities are currently securing the site and assessing structural integrity to prevent further casualties. LASEMA officials are leading the coordinated rescue efforts, with LABSCA engineers inspecting the remnants for any sign of structural violations.
Residents and eye witnesses in the area have gathered in shock and dismay as emergency responders continue to work tirelessly, using specialized equipment to navigate the debris.
