In a landmark ruling, the High Court of Kano State has issued a permanent injunction against Aminu Ado Bayero and four other former Emirs, effectively prohibiting them from claiming their previous titles. This decisive legal action reaffirms the authority of Emir Sanusi over the contested royal seats.
The court’s ruling specifically targets the former Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye, along with their staff and representatives, forbidding them from portraying themselves as Emirs. This legal move underscores the court’s commitment to maintaining order and clarity in the traditional leadership structure of Kano State.
The Kano State government initiated this legal action to prevent the deposed Emirs from continuing to use their royal titles and occupying their palaces. In addition to the court’s injunction, the government has mandated a 48-hour notice for the former Emirs to vacate their residences following their deposition.
This ruling comes amidst ongoing efforts by the Kano State government to ensure the proper administration and respect for the traditional institutions within the state. By upholding Emir Sanusi’s position, the court aims to bring stability and uphold the rule of law in Kano’s traditional governance.
