In a strategic move to address and resolve pressing issues surrounding the Dangote Refinery, the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources [Oil], Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, convened a high-level meeting with key industry stakeholders.

Attendees of this crucial meeting included, Mr. Aliko Dangote, Chairman and CEO of Dangote Group, Mr. Farouk Ahmed, Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mr. Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC Limited)

The Honourable Minister, Senator Lokpobiri, demonstrated exemplary leadership by bringing together these key figures to foster a collaborative approach to problem-solving. The primary agenda of the meeting was to find a sustainable and lasting solution to the challenges currently faced by the Dangote Refinery, a cornerstone project critical to Nigeria’s energy sector.

In his opening remarks, Senator Lokpobiri emphasized the necessity of cooperation and synergy among all stakeholders to ensure the optimal performance and success of the oil and gas sector. He highlighted the sector’s pivotal role in driving Nigeria’s economic growth and securing its energy future.

The stakeholders collectively expressed their appreciation for the Minister’s timely intervention and leadership. They acknowledged the importance of the Dangote Refinery in enhancing Nigeria’s refining capacity and reducing its dependence on imported petroleum products. Discussions were robust and forward-thinking, with all parties showing a strong commitment to collaborative efforts.

Mr. Aliko Dangote, representing the private sector, expressed confidence in the government’s support and assured that the Dangote Group remains dedicated to completing the refinery project. The regulatory bodies, NMDPRA and NUPRC, reiterated their commitment to providing the necessary regulatory framework and support to facilitate the refinery’s operations.

Mr. Mele Kyari of NNPC Limited underscored the significance of the refinery in achieving the national objectives of self-sufficiency in petroleum products and boosting the country’s economic resilience.

This meeting marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to resolve the challenges facing the Dangote Refinery. It underscores the Honourable Minister’s dedication to creating a conducive environment for the oil and gas sector, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic development.
