In a major political development that has reshaped the political landscape of the South-East, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made during a press conference held in Enugu today, where Governor Mbah declared that his decision was guided by his desire to pursue higher principles and align with the progressive vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for national renewal, unity, and sustainable development.

Speaking passionately, Governor Mbah described his move as a “visionary partnership” with the President, noting that his decision transcends politics and is rooted in the shared goal of deepening development across all regions of the country.
“Today, in joining the APC, we are embracing a visionary partnership,” Mbah stated. “I have found in His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, not just a leader of our nation, but a partner in purpose — a man with the courage to look beyond today and make the tough choices that secure lasting prosperity for tomorrow.”
He commended President Tinubu for his inclusive approach to governance, which he said has shown a “deep and vested commitment” to the growth and stability of Enugu State and the South-East region at large.
“The President recognizes our region as a pillar of national progress. We both share a belief that true reform must reach every ward, every village, every grassroots community. It must touch the lives of farmers, traders, and young entrepreneurs who are the backbone of our nation,” Mbah added.
Governor Mbah emphasized that his defection was driven by the need to synchronize Enugu’s developmental ambitions with the federal government’s broader economic and social reform agenda, stating that “this move is bigger than politics — it is about alignment at scale and connecting Enugu’s destiny with the central hub of national transformation.”
Political observers say Mbah’s move marks a significant boost for the APC in the South-East, signaling a shift in the region’s political dynamics ahead of future elections.
With this defection, Governor Mbah becomes the latest sitting governor from the opposition PDP to join the ruling APC, further strengthening the party’s influence across the federation.
