The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays. The announcement is in celebration of Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year, respectively.
This declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Federal Government.
The statement conveyed the Minister’s warm wishes to Nigerians, urging them to embrace the festive season as a time for reflection on the values of love, peace, and unity, which are central to the celebrations.
“The Christmas season is a significant moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, it is an opportunity for Nigerians to demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated.
The Minister further emphasized the importance of the festivities in fostering harmony and national cohesion. He urged citizens to align their aspirations with the spirit of the season, which promotes mutual understanding and collective progress.
Expressing optimism about the coming year, Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. “As we step into 2025, we are confident that this administration will usher in a better and prosperous economy that will be the envy of the world,” the Minister said.
He concluded by wishing all Nigerians a joyous Christmas celebration and a prosperous New Year filled with renewed hope and opportunities.
The announcement has been widely received as a reminder of the government’s dedication to fostering unity and progress among citizens, particularly during periods of national significance.
