In response to growing misinformation, the immediate past Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, has publicly refuted claims suggesting that Atiku Isah is the rightful President of the student body.

Addressing the issue, he clarified that Atiku Isah neither contested in the last NANS convention nor held any constitutionally recognized position within the association—a prerequisite for eligibility. He described the attempt to present Isah as NANS President as a deliberate ploy to mislead the public and destabilize the association’s leadership.

He further emphasized that the most recent NANS convention, held on February 26, 2025, was conducted peacefully and transparently. The convention, which has been praised by observers for its credibility and orderliness, recorded no incidents of violence or controversy, marking a major stride in repositioning NANS as a disciplined and democratic student union.

According to him, the emergence of a parallel leadership structure shortly after such a successful convention mirrors previous tactics employed to sow confusion and chaos within the union.

“This is not just about titles,” the former Senate President stated. “It is about preserving the values, processes, and democratic spirit that bind our great organization. We must reject falsehood and protect the integrity of student leadership.”

He reaffirmed NANS’ commitment to due process and transparent governance, warning that the association will not tolerate any attempt to undermine its constitutionally recognized structures.
