Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State recently had the distinguished honour of speaking at Harvard Business School, where he was a guest lecturer in the renowned course, “Understanding Africa: Business, Entrepreneurship, Political Economy and the Complexities of a Continent”, taught by Professor Hakeem Belo-Osagie.

Delivering a compelling presentation titled “Building the Future: Lagos State’s Infrastructure-Led Transformation,” Governor Sanwo-Olu shared his strategic blueprint for the sustainable development of Africa’s most populous city. He highlighted Lagos’ major infrastructural investments and the progress being made across key sectors such as transportation, housing, industrialization, and climate resilience.
The Governor’s presentation underscored Lagos State’s commitment to harnessing infrastructure as a catalyst for inclusive economic growth. He offered in-depth perspectives on projects such as the Blue and Red Rail Lines, the Lekki Deep Sea Port, affordable housing schemes, and the rollout of climate-smart urban policies aimed at building a resilient city for future generations.

What truly set the session apart was the interactive dialogue that followed his address. Governor Sanwo-Olu engaged with Harvard’s brilliant and diverse student body, fielding thought-provoking questions on governance, urban planning, sustainable revenue generation, leadership in emerging economies, and public-private investment models. The enthusiasm and curiosity displayed by the students reflected a growing global interest in Africa’s urban and economic transformation.
“This was more than just a presentation—it was a vibrant exchange of ideas with some of the world’s most promising future leaders,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Lagos is rising not just in size, but in global relevance. Our goal is to serve as a model for how infrastructure development can shape a prosperous future for African cities.”

He also expressed gratitude to Harvard Business School and Professor Hakeem Belo-Osagie for the warm hospitality and the opportunity to share the Lagos success story on such a prestigious platform.
As Lagos continues on its path of purposeful transformation, this engagement at Harvard reaffirms the state’s position as a leader in infrastructure-driven development on the continent.
