In a momentous address at the 36th annual session of the Crans Montana Forum, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu of Lagos State illuminated Nigeria’s significant contributions to reshaping Africa’s global narrative.
Governor Sanwoolu passionately spoke about the historical misrepresentation of Africa, which has often been unjustly labeled as a global liability. He emphasized the importance of correcting this false narrative by showcasing Africa’s true essence and immense value.
“Africa’s inherent value is boundless,” Governor Sanwoolu declared. He highlighted the continent’s vast reserves of crucial resources, including cobalt, diamonds, and uranium. Additionally, Africa possesses 65% of the world’s arable land, underscoring its critical role in global food security. The continent is also home to approximately 40% of the world’s mineral reserves, including significant percentages of gold, chromium, and platinum.
Governor Sanwoolu stressed that Africa is no longer seeking mere inclusion but is asserting itself as an equal partner on the global stage. “We are ready to engage actively and collaborate as valuable and essential players in shaping the future of the world,” he affirmed.
Governor Sanwoolu highlighted Nigeria’s leadership in this transformative era. He pointed to Lagos as a vibrant hub of innovation and progress, driving the narrative of Africa’s ascendancy. “Lagos exemplifies the potential of African cities to lead in redefining our continent’s story,” he said.
In his concluding remarks, Governor Sanwoolu called for unity and shared vision among African nations. “Together, united in purpose and vision, we can redefine Africa’s story and showcase our continent’s true potential to the world,” he stated.
