In a heart-wrenching outburst, the mother of Ramon Abbas, better known as Hushpuppi, has expressed her profound disappointment and frustration with her son’s criminal actions, which have brought global attention to their family for the wrong reasons.

Speaking in an emotional statement, she lamented the day she gave birth to him, recounting the sacrifices made by her and her husband to give Abbas a better life.

“The day I gave birth to him, people celebrated and rubbed powder on their faces, but I never knew he would grow up to bring shame upon our family,” she said, her voice laden with regret.

Recounting the struggles of raising him, she revealed how she and her husband worked tirelessly to provide for their son.

“I sold bread alongside his father, who drives a taxi, to send him to secondary school. We even registered him at a mechanic workshop to learn a trade, but he chose to be a thief,” she added.

The mother, visibly heartbroken, criticized the extravagant lifestyle Abbas displayed on social media platforms, which ultimately led to his downfall.

“People would tell me they saw him on what you people call ‘so-sho’ media, driving big cars and wearing big clothes. But look at me – I still sell bread, and his father still drives taxis on hire purchase. Will you count me as someone who has a child?”

Despite her harsh words, she called for repentance on her son’s part, expressing hope that he would seek forgiveness from Allah.

“He should stay there as long as they decide because he means nothing to us. May Allah forgive him of his sins if he returns the money he stole from people.”

Her heartfelt plea serves as a stark reminder of the ripple effects of crime, extending beyond the perpetrator to their loved ones and community. It also highlights the pain and shame endured by families of individuals whose actions bring public disgrace.

Ramon Abbas, widely known as Hushpuppi, was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2022 after pleading guilty to charges of money laundering, cyber fraud, and other financial crimes. His case remains one of the most high-profile cyber fraud cases in recent times, shining a spotlight on the challenges of curbing online criminal activities globally.
