The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced a strategic partnership with the Dangote Refinery to directly procure Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) as part of efforts to stabilize and potentially reduce fuel prices across the country. This development was disclosed on Monday by IPMAN’s National President, Abubakar Garima, during a press briefing held in Abuja following a meeting with the association’s National Working Committee.
The new arrangement will see IPMAN source PMS, Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Dual-Purpose Kerosene (DPK) directly from the Dangote Refinery, a move expected to enhance product availability and ensure that PMS reaches IPMAN’s storage facilities and distribution points nationwide in a seamless manner.
“This partnership with the Dangote Refinery marks a critical step toward maintaining a steady and uninterrupted supply of PMS across Nigeria at affordable rates for Nigerians,” said Garima. He noted that the collaboration underscores the importance of supporting local refineries to strengthen the nation’s fuel supply chain.
Garima urged IPMAN members across the country to rally behind the Dangote Refinery, emphasizing the initiative’s broader economic benefits. “It is essential that all IPMAN members give full support to this partnership,” he stated, “as it promises substantial benefits through backward integration, which will ultimately contribute to stabilizing Nigeria’s foreign exchange markets over the medium to long term.”
He further encouraged IPMAN members to rely on local refineries, including the Dangote Refinery, for sourcing PMS and other white products. “By committing to Nigerian refineries, we are not only supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Bola Tinubu but are also creating job opportunities within Nigeria and promoting a more resilient economy,” Garima added.
The agreement between IPMAN and the Dangote Refinery is expected to deliver significant improvements in Nigeria’s fuel distribution framework, offering relief to consumers and enhancing local employment opportunities while reducing reliance on imported petroleum products.
