The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a work-free day for all public servants across the state. The declaration is in recognition of Isese Day, an annual cultural celebration dedicated to preserving and promoting Yoruba traditions, beliefs, and heritage.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in the directive issued on Monday, said the holiday underscores his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, cultural preservation, and respect for religious diversity. The day provides adherents of traditional religion and cultural enthusiasts the opportunity to honor their ancestors, participate in communal prayers, and showcase rich Yoruba values through festivals, lectures, and other activities.
While announcing the holiday, the governor urged Lagos residents to embrace peaceful celebrations and use the occasion to foster unity, harmony, and mutual respect among people of all faiths.
Isese Day, marked annually on August 20, has become a significant event in Lagos State, serving as a reminder of the importance of cultural identity in a rapidly modernizing society.
