Today, at the Lagos Employment Summit organized by the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu delivered an inspiring address on the state’s journey toward sustainable job creation and economic growth.
In his speech, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significant progress made over the past year in transforming the employment landscape of Lagos State. “Our unemployment rate has seen a remarkable improvement,” he noted, attributing this success to a series of innovative initiatives and policies aimed at job creation and youth empowerment.
A cornerstone of these efforts is the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF). Since its establishment, LSETF has been instrumental in driving job growth and economic development. The fund has generated over 221,000 direct and indirect jobs, created more than 83,000 access-to-market opportunities, and provided industry-relevant training to over 18,000 young people. These achievements underscore LSETF’s pivotal role in supporting the state’s workforce and fostering economic resilience.
A major highlight of today’s summit was the launch of the Labour Market Information System (LMIS), a cutting-edge platform designed to enhance job creation and optimize the job market in Lagos State. The LMIS is expected to serve as a valuable tool for job seekers, employers, and policymakers, offering comprehensive data and insights to drive informed decision-making and strategic planning.
As Lagos State looks to the future, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of collective effort in achieving sustainable growth. “It is imperative that we continue to unite our efforts,” he urged. “I call on all stakeholders – government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and international partners – to join hands with us in this mission.”
The Governor’s call to action resonated with the audience, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to create more opportunities, foster greater partnerships, and drive the transformative change that Lagos State needs. The summit concluded with a renewed commitment from all sectors to work together towards a brighter, more prosperous future for the people of Lagos.
