The Lagos State Government has announced the official resumption of the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise across the state, as part of renewed efforts to promote cleanliness, public health, and environmental sustainability.

The announcement was made by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, during the flag-off of the exercise on Mushin–Agege Motor Road alongside officials of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.

According to the Governor, the monthly sanitation exercise will officially resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and will subsequently hold on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. across all communities in the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the initiative is aimed at strengthening environmental consciousness among residents and ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more livable Lagos. He urged all Lagosians to actively participate by dedicating the two-hour period to cleaning their surroundings, clearing drainage channels in front of their homes, and properly disposing of waste.

The Governor noted that environmental sanitation remains a shared responsibility between government and residents, stressing that the vision of a cleaner Lagos can only be achieved through collective action at the grassroots level.
“The Lagos we all desire will not happen overnight. It will be built gradually through the small but meaningful actions we take together—street by street, community by community, and from one Local Government Area to another,” he said.
He further assured residents that the state government would continue to support the initiative through enforcement, public enlightenment and improved waste management systems.
The reintroduction of the sanitation exercise underscores the administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its determination to maintain Lagos as a safe, clean and healthy megacity for all residents.
