In a significant stride towards enhancing urban mobility, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu today supervised the signing of a groundbreaking Joint Venture partnership between IBILE Holdings Limited and CIG Motors Company Limited. This partnership marks a pivotal step in the acquisition of 5,000 brand new vehicles to bolster the LAGRIDE fleet.
The initial phase of this ambitious project will see the delivery of 2,000 vehicles in the coming weeks, with the remainder arriving in subsequent tranches. Notably, the new fleet will include 1,000 electric vehicles, underscoring Lagos State’s commitment to reducing dependence on fossil fuels and minimizing its carbon footprint.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reflected on the journey of the LAGRIDE initiative, which began in 2022 with the launch of 1,000 brand new cars and mini SUVs. This initiative aimed to provide commuters with superior transportation options and enhanced riding convenience. The latest addition to the fleet is poised to further these goals by introducing vehicles designed specifically for Lagos’ terrain, emphasizing low carbon emissions, advanced technological interaction, and energy transition.
“This partnership is a testament to our dedication to sustainable and innovative transportation solutions,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated. “Beyond e-hailing taxi services, this collaboration will initiate carpooling services, chauffeur services, and tech-driven logistics services, expanding the scope of urban mobility in Lagos.”
The Governor praised the mutually beneficial relationship with CIG Motors and called on other private sector players to engage in similar ventures. “We encourage other stakeholders in the transportation sector to embrace opportunities that enhance mobility across the State,” he urged.
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded by reiterating his vision for Lagos as a city that not only meets but exceeds international standards in mobility. “Our aim is for Lagos to thrive as an environmentally sustainable and smart mobility system, befitting its status as a megacity,” he affirmed.
This initiative signals a forward-looking approach to urban transportation, promising a greener, more efficient, and technologically advanced future for the residents of Lagos.
