The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to revitalising the creative sector with a strategic inspection tour of two key cultural assets, which are the 405-seater Lagos Theatre, Igando, and the reconstruction site of Lagos Theatre, Oregun.
On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, led a high-powered delegation on an official assessment of the facilities to evaluate operational capacity, inspect installed equipment, and monitor the progress of ongoing redevelopment works.

The Permanent Secretary was accompanied by the Director of Facility Management, Mr. Abimbola Ogunshote; Deputy Director of Audit, Mrs. Adenike Adebajo; Assistant Director of Tourism, Miss Idowu Amusan; as well as senior administrative and human resource officers of the Ministry.

At the Lagos Theatre, Oregun reconstruction site, the Project Architect, Mr. Tunde Joseph, conducted a comprehensive walkthrough of the construction progress, detailing structural advancements and modernization efforts aimed at delivering a world-class creative hub.
The redevelopment is designed to meet global standards, positioning Lagos as a leading cultural and entertainment destination in Africa.
Similarly, at Lagos Theatre, Igando, the Facility Manager, Mr. Segun Alawode, provided in-depth insights into the current condition of installed equipment, identifying areas requiring upgrades. These improvements form part of the State Government’s broader strategic investments to enhance service delivery, improve audience experience and provide creatives with modern, functional performance spaces.

The inspection team carried out a detailed evaluation of infrastructure, technical equipment and operational readiness at both locations to ensure that the facilities will operate at optimal capacity upon completion.
This proactive oversight underscores the Lagos State Government’s deliberate investment in arts and culture as key drivers of economic growth, youth engagement and global visibility. By modernising theatre infrastructure, the Ministry is not only preserving cultural heritage but also expanding opportunities within the creative economy.

With sustained commitment to infrastructure renewal, Lagos continues to demonstrate that culture remains central to its development agenda
