The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, financial integrity and citizen-focused governance with the refund of over ₦23.2 million to verified subscribers of the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Scheme.

The refund exercise, facilitated by the Lagos State Ministry of Housing, followed the transfer of the housing scheme to the Ministry and the unforeseen delays that affected the original project timeline. In view of the transition process, some subscribers who had earlier made part payments voluntarily opted to withdraw from the scheme and requested refunds.
At a formal presentation ceremony, verified subscribers were issued refund cheques after a thorough and transparent verification process. The gesture underscores the Lagos State Government’s unwavering dedication to due process and responsible financial management.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Toriola Abdulhafis Gbolahan, assured stakeholders that subscribers who completed their payments after the transfer have been duly allocated their housing units.
He emphasized that the administration remains resolute in ensuring that no citizen is unfairly treated or disadvantaged in the course of public service delivery.

Engr. Gbolahan commended the subscribers for their patience, cooperation, and understanding throughout the transition period, describing their conduct as reflective of the enduring partnership between the government and the people of Lagos State.
To guarantee credibility and transparency, the Ministry conducted a comprehensive verification exercise before processing the refunds. The Director of Accounts, Mrs. Yesirat Adewale, confirmed that all documentation presented by subscribers was carefully authenticated prior to the issuance of cheques. She noted that every refund was executed in strict adherence to established financial regulations and best practices.
The successful refund process not only demonstrates the Lagos State Government’s commitment to probity and good governance but also highlights the Ministry’s strong civic engagement approach, ensuring open communication, stakeholder inclusion and responsiveness to citizens’ concerns in the housing sector.
This development further strengthens public confidence in the State’s housing initiatives and its broader vision of delivering sustainable, people-centered infrastructure across Lagos.
