Adeola Ogunmola Sowemimo, a native of Ogbomoso-Yoruba land, has made history in the aviation industry as a Nigerian aircraft pilot. Born on October 16, 1990, Adeola has broken barriers and inspired countless individuals with her remarkable achievements.

Early Life and Education

Adeola was born in Kaduna State, Nigeria, to Ogunmola Ademola and Aweni Deborah Ogunmola. She is the youngest of three children. Due to regional challenges, Adeola attended multiple schools, starting at Brighton International School in Kaduna and completing her primary education at Temitope Nursery and Primary School in Ibadan in 2000. In 2018, at the age of 28, she became the first Nigerian female pilot to fly the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for Qatar Airways, operating long-haul international routes. She is also recognized as the first Nigerian female pilot to fly the Boeing 767 aircraft across the Atlantic Ocean.

Adeola’s achievements are a testament to her resilience and excellence in a traditionally male-dominated field. She has joined the ranks of pioneering female pilots, including Kenya’s Captain Irene Koki and Ethiopia’s Captain Amsale Gulau.

Personal Life

Adeola is married to Seunfunmi Olamilekan Sowemimo and balances her demanding career with family life. Her journey serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating that with dedication and perseverance, barriers can be overcome, and greatness can be achieved.
