A new chapter has been etched into the rich history of the Oyo Empire as the coronation ceremony of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Ikú Bàbá Yeye, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, officially commenced amid pomp, tradition, and royal grandeur.

The ancient town of Oyo was aglow with cultural splendour as traditional rulers, dignitaries, indigenes, and well-wishers from across Nigeria and the diaspora gathered to witness the historic installation of the new monarch. His ascension to the throne as Alàṣẹ Ẹ̀kẹjì Òrìṣà (The Second-in-Command to the Deities) marks the continuation of a revered lineage of leadership, steeped in Yoruba heritage and spiritual authority.

The coronation ceremony was a vibrant display of Yoruba culture—featuring traditional rites, chants, dances, and drumming that echoed through the palace grounds, affirming the sacredness of the Alaafin’s throne. Royal emissaries, cultural custodians, and spiritual leaders all played significant roles in the formal enthronement rituals that date back centuries.

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, ascends the throne at a critical time, with high expectations from the people of Oyo and the entire Yoruba race for progressive leadership, cultural preservation, and unity.

As chants of loyalty and celebration filled the air, the people of Oyo Kingdom and beyond offered heartfelt prayers: “Kabiyesi o! Alàṣẹ Ẹ̀kẹjì Òrìṣà! Long may your reign be peaceful, prosperous, and impactful.”
Indeed, a new dawn has begun.
