The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Rwanda today in their FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
The decisive moment came in the 51st minute when striker Tosin Arokodare found the back of the net with an acrobatical finish, sending the home crowd into jubilation. The Super Eagles forward repaid the coach Eric Chelle’s faith with the only goal of the encounter.

Nigeria dominated possession for most parts of the game, creating several chances through the attacking duo of Victor Osimhen who was later substituted due to injury and Ademola Lookman but the Rwandan defense stood resilient. Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari also produced a string of impressive saves to keep his side in contention until Arokodare’s breakthrough.
The victory marked Nigeria’s win in the qualifying campaign, keeping their hopes alive for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Head coach, Eric Chelle commended the players for their determination while urging them to remain focused as tougher battles lie ahead. “It was not an easy game but the boys showed character. We need to build on this momentum and keep pushing for qualification,” he said during the post-match conference.
With this result, the Super Eagles climb up the Group standings and will next face South Africa next Tuesday in what promises to be another crucial clash on the road to the World Cup.
