In a significant humanitarian intervention, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has successfully facilitated the return of Adeola, the 41-year-old daughter of veteran Nollywood actress, Jumoke George, from Mali. This development brings closure to a distressing four-year period of uncertainty for the actress and her family.
Adeola was recently discovered in Mali after being declared missing since 2020. Her sudden disappearance had sparked concern and emotional distress, particularly for her mother, who had made public appeals for help in locating her daughter.
The matter gained renewed public attention when Jumoke George shared her ordeal during an emotional interview on the Talk to B show, hosted by fellow actress Abiola Bayo. In the interview, Jumoke recounted that her daughter had been residing with her grandmother in Ibadan, Oyo State, and was last seen after informing the family she was travelling to Lagos. That trip marked the beginning of her years-long disappearance.
Following the media exposure and sustained efforts by relevant stakeholders, NiDCOM stepped in to trace and repatriate Adeola from Mali. While details surrounding her disappearance and time in the West African country remain sketchy, the agency’s intervention has brought long-awaited relief to the family.
NiDCOM, under the leadership of Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has continued to play a crucial role in assisting stranded Nigerians abroad and reuniting families through strategic diplomacy and inter-agency collaboration.
The Commission is expected to provide further updates on Adeola’s return and reintegration, while also offering support to ensure her full recovery from the traumatic experience.
Nigerians have expressed joy about the news and said this incident serves as another reminder of the pressing need for vigilance and improved structures to prevent trafficking, displacement, and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
