Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, delivered a spectacular performance in the semifinals of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Women Championship, overcoming a tough Senegalese side in a dramatic encounter that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

In a game that showcased grit, resilience, and championship mentality, the Nigerian ladies rallied from an eight-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to secure a thrilling 75-68 victory over perennial rivals Senegal.

Senegal, determined to halt Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball, took control early, leveraging their defensive discipline and fast breaks to frustrate the reigning champions. Entering the final quarter with a 56-48 lead, the Lionesses appeared poised to pull off an upset.

However, D’Tigress responded with the heart of champions, unleashing a ferocious offensive run while tightening their defense. Inspired by clutch shooting, aggressive rebounds, and coordinated team play, they turned the tide of the game in the final minutes. The victory not only highlighted Nigeria’s tenacity but also reaffirmed their status as Africa’s basketball powerhouse, having ruled the continent for the past decade.

With the win, Nigeria books a place in the AfroBasket Women final, moving one step closer to defending their crown and lifting a record-extending sixth title.
