The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has dismissed circulating reports alleging that the recently rehabilitated Old Port Harcourt Refinery has ceased operations.
In a statement issued by Olufemi Soneye, Chief Communication Officer of NNPC Ltd., the corporation firmly refuted the claims, stating:
“The attention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has been drawn to reports in a section of the media alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery, which was re-streamed two months ago, has been shut down. We wish to clarify that such reports are totally false as the refinery is fully operational, as verified a few days ago by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC.”
Soneye further noted that preparations for the day’s loading operations at the refinery are actively underway, signaling that all systems are functioning as intended.
He urged Nigerians to disregard the unfounded claims, emphasizing that:
“Members of the public are advised to discountenance such reports as they are figments of the imagination of those who seek to create artificial scarcity and exploit Nigerians.”
The Port Harcourt Refinery, a critical component of Nigeria’s energy infrastructure, was recently rehabilitated and re-streamed to bolster local fuel production, reducing reliance on imports. The NNPC’s statement reassures the public of the refinery’s operational status amidst these misleading reports.
