In response to a recently circulated video alleging the sale of adulterated fuel in bottles and jerrycans, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has issued an official disclaimer.

This statement, signed by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, addresses the claims, asserting the company’s commitment to quality and safety in all its operations.

NNPC Ltd. clarified that the viral video, which shows an individual pouring a dark liquid purportedly bought as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from an NNPC Retail outlet at Keffi Flyover, is entirely misleading. The company’s response is as follows:

1. False Allegations Disproven
After conducting immediate and thorough spot checks across all NNPC Retail outlets, the company confirmed that the claims are untrue. NNPC Retail does not sell or dispense fuel in non-standard containers such as bottles or jerrycans, as depicted in the video. This practice is strictly against NNPC Ltd.’s operational policies and would not occur at any authorized outlet.

2. Uncompromising Quality Assurance
NNPC Retail Ltd. emphasizes that it does not engage in the sale of adulterated petroleum products. Every product at its outlets undergoes stringent quality control measures to meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and quality. This commitment ensures that only properly tested and certified products are made available to consumers.

3. Advisory Against False Information
The company advised members of the public to disregard the baseless claims made in the video. It urged Nigerians to be cautious of individuals who, driven by selfish motives, spread unfounded rumors that could potentially disrupt public trust and fuel economic instability.

4. Commitment to Accurate Pump Integrity
NNPC Ltd. reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining pump integrity through consistent inspections and calibration across all its retail stations nationwide. This ongoing practice guarantees that the public receives value for their money and can rely on the consistency and accuracy of NNPC Retail’s fuel distribution.

NNPC Ltd. assures Nigerians that it remains committed to transparency, integrity, and the highest quality standards in providing energy solutions for the nation. The company encourages the public to seek verified information and avoid falling prey to misleading narratives that do not reflect the company’s values or operations.
