To ensure a safe, sustainable, and livable environment through the use of clean energy in Nigerian households, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi Foundation has partnered with Smart gas Nigeria, a technology-based gas distribution company to donate cooking gas to lkate community Lekki Lagos.

The monarch represented by Chief Olalekan Bakare, the Aro of Ikate Kingdom, emphasized that the monarch is very concerned about the alarming global warming and climate changes affecting people locally and globally despite all the efforts and resources channeled to curb it.
He disclosed that Oba Elegushi has continuously champion environmental projects and welfare of his people and society since his enthronement. The gesture promotes longetivity and healthy lifestyle of his people because of his great passion for nature and clean healthy environment.Dr Yinka Opeke, Smart Gas Chief Executive Officer, observed that as a nation, we are faced with different environmental challenges that constantly threaten our livelihood as a people. Notable among these is flooding which is to a large extent caused by the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in water channels and drainages.

“Research indicates that a major hindrance to the adoption of cooking gas in Nigeria is the initial cost of acquiring these cylinders and burners because over 70% of our people survive on less than two dollars a day. His Royal Majesty through the Oba Saheed Elegushi Foundation decided to fund the purchase and distribution of these burner fitted 3 kg cylinders partnered with us to bring this campaign to your doorsteps.,”

She said “Our only objective is not just profitability, but measurable social and environmental impact and through our Trash-for-Gas campaign, our ESG-focus as a company is further reinforced.

In addition, as we sanitize our environment today through the trash collection exercise, remember cleanliness is next to godliness, prevention is better than cure and while we have high expectations from our government and leaders, we also have our part to play by cleaning up our environment and transitioning to cleaner cooking alternatives”.
The Monarch and guardian of the people of Elegushi, decided to bring the Trash-for-Gas campaign to your doorsteps in partnership with Smart Gas.

“We partner with community leaders, govt agencies, corporate organisations, religious institutions and well meaning individuals to donate prefilled cooking gas cylinders to underserved communities as a safer alternative to kerosene, firewood and charcoal. And by collecting their trash, we educate them on the importance of a cleaner and healthier environment for their families. “

This initiative has indeed opened up opportunities for recycling companies and budding recyclers.
According to her, the use of firewood and charcoal for cooking not only impacts our environment negatively due to emissions but also our health because of the smoke we inhale, and the most affected are women and children. “We therefore implore the women and beneficiaries to make use of them, come back and share your testimonials with our royal father so that he and other traditional leaders will be encouraged to do more.
Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegeshin, Managing Director LAWMA, appeals to the people to clean their homes and environment.

He added that LAWMA has over 450 PSP in Lagos communities to help and manage different types of waste with a fee, but obsevered that most persons don’t want to pay these operators or cart pushers for their services.
He advised them to stop dumping refuses and wastes indiscriminately on the streets, road, gutters among others and ensure people live a long healthy and happy life now and in future.

Ms. Aiki Odiawa, Director Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi Foundation; disclosed that over 200 women and families have benefited from the Trash for Gas project by the monarch.
