In Ward 11, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially endorsed Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu as their preferred candidate for the 2024 governorship election. The endorsement took place during a reception held in honor of Shaibu at a ward meeting.
According to PM News, Igbafe Agbonoga, the Chairman of Ward 11, expressed the widespread acceptability of the deputy governor among party members and the community. Agbonoga stated Shaibu’s practical governance approach during his tenures in the Edo State House of Assembly and National Assembly as a key factor in their decision.
The Ward Chairman emphasized that after thorough consultations with PDP members in Ward 11, they believe Philip Shaibu is the most credible and qualified candidate for the Edo 2024 Governorship Election.
“We have agreed that Philip Shaibu must run for 2024 Governorship Election. We know he would make a huge difference, if elected as the next Governor of our dear State. Our decision is based on the ideology of the Deputy Governor’s practicality in governance during his tenure as a member of Edo State House of Assembly and National Assembly respectively, which focused on ensuring a paradigm shift in governance,” Chairman said.
However, a source close to the Edo Government House, speaking anonymously, revealed that Governor Obaseki is not in favor of Shaibu’s endorsement. The source stated that Obaseki has an anointed candidate, whose identity will be disclosed soon. The governor had previously accused Shaibu of harboring ambitions to succeed him and warned against what he termed as “It’s my turn politics.”
