The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural organization of the South-East, has declared its full endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bills. This landmark support underscores the organization’s confidence in the reforms as a pathway to revitalizing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.

In a detailed statement issued by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the group emphasized that the proposed legislation could serve as a catalyst for economic progress. According to Isiguzoro, the endorsement followed extensive deliberations, consultations with stakeholders, and a meticulous evaluation of the bills’ potential impact on Nigeria’s economic landscape.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as the apex socio-cultural organisation representing the Igbo nation, unequivocally supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bills. This endorsement comes after rigorous scrutiny and consultations aimed at understanding the broader implications for our people and the nation,” Isiguzoro stated.

He highlighted key benefits of the reforms, noting that they address long-standing economic barriers, such as double taxation imposed by certain state governments, which have stifled business growth. “These reforms are not just legislative proposals but a transformative opportunity to rejuvenate SMEs, boost the morale and fortunes of Nigerian workers, and create an equitable business environment,” he added.

The Secretary-General further noted that the reforms align with the entrepreneurial ethos of the Igbo people, who are widely celebrated for their business acumen and economic self-reliance. “By eliminating obstacles that hinder investments, the reforms will attract both local and foreign investments, positioning the Nigerian economy for sustained growth,” he said.

Ohanaeze’s endorsement of the tax reform bills reflects the commitment of sociocultural and economic groups to supporting the Bola Tinubu administration in fostering policies that promote economic development, inclusivity and prosperity for all Nigerians. As the nation awaits the passage of these bills, the sociocultural organization has urged all stakeholders to rally behind the reforms for the collective benefit of the country.

This significant move by Ohanaeze further cements its role as a critical voice in national discourse, advocating for policies that enhance economic stability and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
