The ancient city of Ibadan has been thrown into mourning following the passing of its revered monarch, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, who has joined his ancestors at the age of 90.
Oba Olakulehin, a highly respected traditional ruler and custodian of Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage, reportedly passed away peacefully after a brief illness. His transition marks the end of an era in the history of Ibadanland, as he was not only a monarch but also a symbol of unity, wisdom, and leadership for the people of the largest city in West Africa.
A man of great dignity and profound knowledge, Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne of his forefathers after decades of service within the traditional chieftaincy system of Ibadan, having risen through the military line of the Ibadan traditional hierarchy. His reign was marked by peace, cultural renaissance, and a commitment to the socio-economic development of Ibadanland.
Since the announcement of his passing, tributes have poured in from political leaders, traditional rulers, and citizens alike, extolling the late monarch’s virtues and his immense contributions to the progress of Ibadan and Oyo State as a whole.
