Delta State witnessed a major political realignment today as Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy President of the 9th Senate, formally welcomed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement personally signed and released earlier today, Omo-Agege described the Governor’s defection — along with other leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — as a significant milestone, underscoring the growing impact of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda across the nation.
“The leadership of the Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) warmly welcomes His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and all leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC,” Omo-Agege announced. “This historic move highlights the success of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in driving growth and development in our country.”
According to Omo-Agege, the decision follows extensive consultations with the national leadership of the APC, the Progressive Governors Forum, and key stakeholders in the Delta APC. He assured party members and supporters that any issues arising from this major development are being addressed with wisdom, foresight, and a shared commitment to unity and progress.
“In line with outcomes of deliberations with the national leadership of our party, the Progressive Governors Forum, and Delta APC stakeholders, I wish to assure all stakeholders that any issues arising from this development are being carefully considered and managed with prudence and foresight, in the best interests of our party and our beloved state,” the statement noted.
The former Deputy Senate President further called on all APC members, executives at the local government and ward levels, and supporters across the state to rally together in unity. He urged them to participate en masse in the grand reception being organized to formally welcome Governor Oborevwori and other defectors into the party on Monday, April 28, 2025, in Asaba, the state capital.
“Let us embrace this development with unity, understanding, and a shared commitment to the progress of Delta State and Nigeria,” Omo-Agege emphasized.
He noted that the growing strength of the APC in Delta State reflects the party’s renewed commitment to delivering progressive governance that guarantees a brighter, more prosperous, secure, and united future for the people.
Omo-Agege also used the occasion to commend President Bola Tinubu for his political acumen and visionary leadership, which he said have been instrumental in consolidating the APC’s position as the party of choice for Nigerians seeking positive change. He equally appreciated the National Chairman and the National Working Committee of the APC for their tireless efforts in strengthening the party’s structures and supporting the Delta State chapter during this critical period.
“I also take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his political sagacity and visionary leadership, as well as to the National Chairman and the entire National Working Committee of the APC for their unwavering support and tireless efforts. May their efforts continue to yield positive outcomes for our great party,” he concluded.
The defection of Governor Oborevwori is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape of Delta State ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
