In a significant breakthrough for national security efforts, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Kwara State Government have announced the successful rescue of dozens of Nigerians earlier abducted by criminal elements in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger States.
The Presidency confirmed that all 38 worshippers kidnapped during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have regained their freedom, following days of intense, intelligence-driven operations by security agencies. Similarly, 51 of the abducted students of a Catholic school in Niger State have also been rescued, with search operations continuing for those still unaccounted for.
President Tinubu, who personally coordinated the national response, reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to securing every Nigerian life. The President had earlier cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to focus on the deteriorating security situations in Kwara and Kebbi States, directing massive deployments and enhanced surveillance to support rescue efforts.

“Thanks to the relentless efforts of our security forces over the last few days, the abducted worshippers in Eruku and dozens of the missing students in Niger State have been rescued,” the President said. “Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety — and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people.”
Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON), also confirmed the development, describing the release of the 38 abducted worshippers as “a moment of profound relief for the government and people of Kwara State.” He attributed the breakthrough squarely to President Tinubu’s “hands-on leadership and decisive intervention.”
According to the Governor, the President’s direct involvement, including his order for heightened military and intelligence deployments to Kwara, played a pivotal role in the successful operation. He also acknowledged the contributions of various security formations — including the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Nigeria Police Force, which deployed four additional tactical squads to reinforce operations in the state.
“The release of the abductees is a testament to what can be achieved when leadership, security agencies, and communities work together with unity of purpose,” Governor AbdulRazaq said. He extended appreciation to traditional rulers, religious bodies, community leaders, and all Kwarans for their prayers, patience, and cooperation during the crisis.
As rescue efforts continue for the remaining missing students in Niger State, both the Presidency and the Kwara State Government reaffirmed their commitment to sustained security reforms, intensified operations against bandits, and the ongoing pursuit of lasting peace across all regions.
The Federal Government urged citizens to remain vigilant and supportive of security agencies as the nation continues its fight against criminality.
