President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of strategic appointments into key federal institutions as part of his administration’s ongoing drive to strengthen governance and promote reform across sectors.
Among the most prominent of the new appointments is that of Muhammad Babangida, son of former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), who has been named Managing Director of the newly restructured Bank of Agriculture (BOA). This move is expected to revitalize Nigeria’s agricultural financing sector and align it with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, which places emphasis on food security and rural development.
In a statement released by the Presidency on Thursday, seven other individuals were also appointed to lead critical federal agencies and institutions, reflecting a wide geographic spread and professional diversity. They include:
- Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna State) – Appointed Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), she is expected to provide policy direction and oversight that will stimulate investment and industrial activities in Nigeria’s oil and gas free zones.
- Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano State) – Named Chairman, National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), he will guide the council’s efforts in curriculum development and educational research to improve learning outcomes nationwide.
- Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano State) – Appointed Chairman, Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), a regulatory agency responsible for maintaining product quality and industrial standards in Nigeria.
- Sanusi Musa, SAN (Kano State) – Appointed Chairman, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR). As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, his expertise is expected to aid national dialogue and conflict resolution efforts across the country.
- Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto State) – Appointed Director-General, Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA). His appointment is geared toward enhancing Nigeria’s technical relations with other African nations.
- Sanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara State) – Appointed Director-General, Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN), where he will oversee the coordination and development of Nigeria’s international trade agreements.
- Mrs. Tomi Somefun (Oyo State) – Appointed Managing Director, National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC). Her role will be central to the development of communities affected by hydroelectric power generation.
- Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna State) – Named Executive Director, Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC), tasked with ensuring sustainable water resource management across the country.
These appointments reflect President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing commitment to merit-based leadership and inclusive governance, drawing from a wide pool of professionals to steer critical government agencies.
The newly appointed officials are expected to assume their duties immediately.
