President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the new Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). This significant appointment is seen as a strategic move to enhance the nation’s Hajj operations and elevate the quality of services provided to Nigerian pilgrims.
Professor Usman, a distinguished scholar and expert in Islamic studies, holds qualifications from two prominent institutions: the University of Madinah and Peshawar University in Pakistan. His academic background and religious scholarship have earned him respect within and beyond the Islamic community.
In addition to his academic credentials, Professor Usman brings a wealth of practical experience in Hajj management. He previously served as the Chairman of the Kano State Pilgrims Board, where he successfully managed the operations for the state, which has the largest allocation of pilgrims in the country. His leadership in this role was marked by efficient coordination and the smooth execution of Hajj logistics.
The President’s decision to appoint Professor Usman reflects a commitment to ensuring that Nigeria’s Hajj operations are administered with excellence. The appointment, however, remains subject to confirmation by the Senate as part of the standard protocol.
In a statement, President Tinubu expressed confidence in Professor Usman’s ability to steer NAHCON effectively. He urged the new Chairman to carry out his responsibilities with the highest level of integrity, transparency, and dedication, in line with the administration’s vision of accountability and service to the nation.
The appointment is anticipated to usher in a new era for Hajj management in Nigeria, with a focus on improved service delivery, efficiency, and enhanced welfare for all Nigerian pilgrims.
