President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), as the new Minister of Defence, marking a strategic transition in Nigeria’s national security leadership.

The ceremony, which held earlier today at the State House, Abuja, was attended by top government officials, security chiefs and senior members of the administration. General Musa takes over the defence portfolio at a critical time, as the Federal Government intensifies ongoing military operations against insurgency, banditry and other forms of insecurity across various regions of the country.
President Tinubu, while administering the oath of office, charged the newly appointed minister to bring his wealth of military experience to bear in strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture and enhancing inter-agency collaboration. He emphasized that the administration remains committed to safeguarding citizens and restoring peace to troubled communities nationwide.
General Musa, a distinguished military leader, previously served as Chief of Defence Staff where he coordinated multi-service operations and supervised high-level engagements with international partners. His appointment, widely welcomed within security circles, is expected to reinforce ongoing reforms in the Armed Forces.
Speaking shortly after his inauguration, General Musa pledged unwavering commitment to the mandate of securing the nation, promising improved strategic planning, welfare of service personnel and modernization of defence systems.
His resumption sets a new phase for the Ministry of Defence as the Federal Government continues its drive toward sustained security stability, enhanced military capability and strengthened national defence policies.
