Valentine Chineto Ozigbo, a prominent political figure and former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, has officially resigned from the Labour Party (LP).

Ozigbo, who joined the LP in the buildup to the 2023 general elections, announced his departure in a statement addressed to his supporters in Awka. He cited internal conflicts and concerns over the party’s leadership at the national level as key factors behind his decision.

“The Labour Party, as presently constituted, lacks the internal cohesion and strategic leadership necessary to drive the kind of political change that Nigerians desperately seek,” Ozigbo stated.
Ozigbo, a respected businessman and former President and CEO of Transcorp Plc, was the PDP’s flagbearer in the 2021 Anambra governorship election before defecting to the LP. His move was seen as a strategic alignment with the party’s rising influence, particularly following the emergence of Peter Obi as its presidential candidate.
However, his resignation underscores ongoing challenges within the Labour Party, which has faced allegations of internal wrangling and leadership struggles since the 2023 elections. Observers note that Ozigbo’s exit may further expose the party’s structural weaknesses as it positions itself for future political contests.
While he did not immediately disclose his next political move, Ozigbo reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for good governance and democratic values in Nigeria.
His resignation adds to a growing list of high-profile departures from the Labour Party, raising concerns about its ability to maintain cohesion ahead of the next electoral cycle.
