Eid-el-Kabir for this year will fall on September 1, 2017.
This was date was set by the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, who is also the Chairman, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sokoto Sultanate Council who signed the statement containing the date said this follows the sighting of the new moon of Zulhijja on Tuesday, August 22nd 2017.
According to the statement, “The advisory committee in conjunction with the National Committee on Moon Sighting received various reports on moon sighting across the country confirming the sighting of new moon of Zulhijja on Tuesday Aug. 22, 2017”
The statement further said, that as a result of the sighting of the moong, Friday September 1, 2017 should be observed as Sallah day by all Muslim faithfuls in Nigeria.
