The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, today officially inaugurated the Chairman and Members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC). The newly sworn-in officials are tasked with overseeing the forthcoming Local Government elections in Lagos State.
The event, held at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, underscored the commitment of the state government to ensure credible, free, and fair elections across the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
Leading the commission is Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile, who will serve as the Chairman. She brings a wealth of legal and administrative expertise to the role, with a mandate to ensure transparency and uphold democratic values in the electoral process.
The commission’s other members, sworn in alongside Justice Ighile, include:
1. Mr. Samson Ajibade – Commissioner
2. Mr. Akin Durojaiye Oluwo – Commissioner
3. Dr. Olumide Olusola Metilelu – Commissioner
4. Mr. Abeeb Dapo Aileru – Commissioner
5. Hon. Oladele Adekanye –Commissioner
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, charged the LASIEC leadership to be impartial and to prioritize the credibility of the electoral process. “The success of our democracy depends on the integrity of our electoral system. This is why your responsibility as members of LASIEC is critical to the advancement of Lagos State,” the governor said.
Justice Ighile, speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in members, expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in them and assured the governor and the people of Lagos State of their unwavering commitment to delivering a transparent and credible electoral process.
The Local Government elections are expected to serve as a platform for grassroots leadership renewal, reinforcing Lagos State’s position as a pacesetter in democratic governance.
