The leadership of the African Action Congress Party have engaged each other in a tussle for power using explusion as a tool.
A splinter group from the party describing itself as The National Executive Committee of the party delivered the first salvo on Monday, May 13, 2019 when it announced the suspension of Omoyele Sowore who was the party’s flag bearer in the last Presidential elections.
According to the group Sowore was being suspended for alleged anti-party activities, failure to convene NEC meeting and financial misappropriation.
However, in a counter-move Sowore released a signed statement where he expelled the “Acting Chairman” and suspended the members of the NEC committee for being rebels induced by financial reasons and anti-progressive politics.
In his statement, Sowore said “These members, led by Leonard Nzenwa, former national secretary, who was suspended for financial impropriety and anti-party activities, have demonstrated by their actions that they have never been, and have never shared, the core beliefs that those of us in the African Action Congress hold.
“Leonard Nzenwa is hereby expelled from the party, and the misguided individuals who participated in the Abuja meeting are suspended from the party until investigations reveal the extent of their involvement”
