In a significant stride towards addressing Nigeria’s pressing climate and health issues, the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action led by Ajuri Ngelale met with a leading executive from BURN Manufacturing this evening. BURN Manufacturing, a trailblazer in the clean cooking stove industry, operates a factory in Kano and is on the verge of inaugurating another facility in Lagos. The company is recognized for its vertically-integrated approach to manufacturing clean cooking stoves, which play a crucial role in combating pollution from traditional cooking methods.
The envoy emphasized the transformative impact that clean cooking technology could have on Nigeria’s rural and urban communities. “Polluting emissions from unclean cooking practices are fueling both climate and health crises across our nation. Clean cooking stove manufacturing and supply hold the potential to extend lifespans, create wealth, and generate carbon credits, thereby driving Nigeria’s economic development forward,” the envoy stated.
Earlier in the day, the envoy received a comprehensive briefing from the leadership team of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) regarding their ongoing internal reforms. The envoy praised the NCCC’s efforts, noting, “The tremendous work being done is comprehensive and will certainly boost donor and stakeholder confidence once unveiled.”
These developments underscore Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change through innovative technology and robust policy reforms, positioning the nation as a leader in sustainable development.
